About

My name is Tania Bocher. I am an accredited family mediator with the South African Association of Mediators (SAAM), and accredited member of the National Accreditation Board for Family Mediators (NABFAM). I have completed my two psychology degrees through UNISA, BA Health Sciences and Social Services, specialising in counselling psychology, AND BA Honours in Psychology.

As a Cognitive- Behavioural Coach, I am an affiliated member of Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA) and affiliated member of the International Society for Coaching Psychology (ISCP).

My passion is in working with families and in particular children. I believe family is of core importance in society. However with the deterioration of the family system children are often the ones feeling the greatest amount of pain post divorce. This need not be the case when parents are able to communicate effectively with regards to the children’s best interest.

Cognitive-Behavioural Coaching

As Cognitive-Behavioural Coach, I work with you as an individual to create the life you want to live for yourself! Cognitive-Behavioural Coaching (CBC) is an effective coaching approach, founded on evidence based psychological models.

CBC helps identify personal self-defeating behaviours and thoughts which are destructive to our self-identity and prevent us from living the life we want and deserve.

Rates for individual coaching are fixed. Please contact me for any further information required.

Family Mediation

Mediation is very effective in empowering parents to address child rearing concerns; living arrangements; maintenance issues; education and the overall emotional and physical health of the children post divorce.

In accordance with the Child’s Act 38 of 2005 mediation is a requirement to address the best interests of the child post divorce or unmarried couples. This can be extended to any person who has an interest in the well-being of the child.

As a family mediator I am available to facilitate mediation of a parenting plan in accordance to the court annex rules, and in order for parents to fulfil their duty in terms of the Child’ Act. My role is not therapeutic but rather as neutral third party to aid parents in negotiating the best interests of the child.

The mediation process provides parents the opportunity to negotiate issues pertaining to the children with regards to:

  • With whom the child shall live or how time shall be shared between parents
  • Maintenance
  • Contact between the child and the parents / parties, or any other third party
  • Schooling
  • Religious upbringing
  • Medical care, etc.
  • The voice of the child is an important element to be taken into consideration when compiling the parenting plan, as per the Child’s Act. This shall also be taken into consideration.

Mediation is cost and time effective, thus alleviating any extra burden on the parties, as well as aid in reducing further emotional turmoil on the children.
